Thea's intent was to merely pass through Petalburg city, perhaps stop along the way as a tourist might to buy trinkets to decorate her apartment in Lilycove. What she had not intended, however, was to be swept into a scene at a junkyard. [break][break]

The woman tucks her hands close to her as people brush past her. As if like a magnet, she seems to attract the younger scene to her skirts. A child, separated from the comfort of his mother, latches onto her dress. The woman looks down at a soft tug and witnesses the tears of a child, disoriented by the sudden crowd of people.[break][break]

It takes no time for the boys mother to collect him and thank her, and no sooner than that does Thea realize that there is a competition of sorts that requires participants to massacre and demolish a junked car. It seems... bizarre and immature - but somehow she's been pushed in to enter.[break][break]

"Wh-what? I don't--"[break][break]

But there are people expecting a show and she's flabbergasted and overwhelmed. As if on cue, the woman's Drifblim appears, floating above the crowd to rejoin Thea. It seems as though she is more than willing to participate in this act of careless fun, and she promptly empties the entirety of her blimp body out in a powerful GUST, sending the vehicle rolling and tumbling.[break][break]

Glass shatters and the crowd cheers.[break][break]

He wasn’t expecting to get swept up into a demolition derby at Petalburg’s outskirts, but here he was.[break][break]

Luckily he had a light scarf on so he could hide the bottom half of his face just in case someone was in the crowd and instantly recognized him by his hair or his face. Rummaging around in his jacket pocket to see if he had brought anything else to hide his face, he pulled out a red bandana and quickly tied it around his face before finding a pair of shades he had seemingly forgotten about.[break][break]

Oh, lucky. That was too lucky, he thought as he was then pressed forward—and found himself with a female who had a Drifblim out. Much tempted as he was to comment about the dual-type in front of them, he knew that he had to act fast.[break][break]

Flicking a wrist, a Moon Ball popped to full size and revealed a Lucario, achieving a two-point landing.[break][break]

“Vince, be careful out there. I know you want to relieve your stress so… here we are. I guess…” he trailed off, before the dual-type gave him a ‘what the hell’ look.[break][break]

“Go on, go after the car,” he added, motioning for the Lucario to do what he wanted. Disappearing in a burst of Extreme Speed, the Lucario then reappeared close to the car that had already been assaulted with a Gust of wind and began to unload a series of Bullet Punch attacks on it.[break][break]

Thea does a double-take as a young man comes to join her. He seems to fiddle with a red bandana covering his face. For a moment, she worries that she's involved herself in something gang-related, or that he knows more than she and there are particles of disease lingering in the air. Her nose crinkles in mild worry, but it appears that the man is more preoccupied with throwing his own Pokemon into the fray.[break][break]

While he releases a Lucario to batter the car further, Thea seems visibly out of place and awkward during this whole situation. Her Drifblim, however, is enthralled in the process of destruction. The GUST is repeated continuously, great joy being expressed as the vehicle continues to tumble and flip across the arena.[break][break]

Coupled with the strangers Lucario, it seems that they're already making considerable progress in the destruction of their assigned car. Thea still can't wrap her head around the excitement behind it. This was such a childish endeavor, what could possibly be the point?[break][break]

Thea doesn't speak up toward the stranger, perhaps more than a little uneasy with the bandana masking his identity. That part, perhaps, may have been the most peculiar thing about all of this. [break][break]

If word got out that the Fortree Gym Leader was involved in some car demolition shenanigans, then there would be the press to deflect for days on freaking end. This was why he had the bandana to hide most of his features… but then again he already had the shades on, so what else could he do?[break][break]

After a while the heat from the bandana got to him and he then moved it down to take a deep breath. Looking at where Vincent was, he caught the Lucario seemingly juggling one part of the car’s wrecked front hood before slamming into it with a one-two Force Palm strike.[break][break]

He could only guess what the dual-type was doing—another loud crunching noise came from where the Lucario was situated, having now kicked away the hood of the car in annoyance. Taking careful aim, he then began to pummel it once more with Force Palm strikes, watching as the car’s front slowly began to disintegrate under the sheer force of the successive attacks.[break][break]

Eventually, the jackal Pokémon moved to another side of the car and continued to practice his Force Palm strike attacks, knocking off one of the side mirrors in the process.[break][break]

At some point, Thea finds some scrap of amusement in the situation. It reminds her fondly of the bizarre games some of her students play. From time to time she had found them gathered around one individual's gaming device. He spoke often of the enemy having a terrible hitbox. Not that she knew at all what that meant.[break][break]

She could only assume that this might have brought a great deal of excitement to her students. Surely, however, they would assure her that 'No, Miss Rhodes. This isn't at all like a fighting video game.' But, they would have giggled at her and given her hugs and reassurance. [break][break]

Whatever the case, it appears that the metaphorical hitbox of the vehicle might very well be as nonexistent as in fighting games. It seems that the Drifblim's attempt at a GUST had been fruitless. It kicked up dust and not much else. In actuality, it seemed that the Lucario had managed to FORCE PALM the vehicle into a position it couldn't budge from. It was stuck.[break][break]

Thea observes quietly and with mild curiosity as the stranger lowers his bandana to suck in a deep breath. If anything, it at least gave her some reassurance that he wasn't hiding from fumes. Though the pit certainly smelled of gasoline and oil leakage. It was positively disgusting, really.[break][break]

Drifblim decides to change up her tactic, utilizing a PHANTOM FORCE to disappear and reappear inside of the vehicle. She begins to attempt to swell up from the inside, crushing the dashboard and other various items. [break][break]

He couldn’t help it anymore. The Drifblim really got his attention.[break][break]

“Normally, when I meet Drifblim they tend to explode on me,” he began in the woman’s direction. “Has yours done anything like carry things off with it to who knows where?”[break][break]

He figured, it was time to break the proverbial silence between the two of them. Would she even notice? She had no idea. Turning back his attention to the Lucario, he noticed that the jackal Pokémon had backed away, wondering why the car was moving on its own.[break][break]

Looking over to his human companion for confirmation, he waved a hand at the dual-type. “Be careful where you hit, you might strike her Drifblim,” he called to the Lucario, who nodded and then went towards the back of the car.[break][break]

He knew that Vincent was going to do something similar to a cross-up maneuver by angling himself before striking the car once more—this time throwing his weight on it in a show of Extreme Speed.[break][break]

Should keep the crowd distracted for a while… he thought as he saw the Lucario reappear before continuing to wail on the car, which was showing signs of crumpling.[break][break]

“How… did you end up here?” he inquired of the woman a few moments later. “Surely not be chance…”[break][break]

Thea glances at the man the moment he speaks. His comment comes out of the blue but a part of her appreciates it in some way.[break][break]

"Oh.. she is definitely your typical Drifblim. It has been a long time, however, since she's acted out or harmed anyone. A very, very long time."[break][break]

There is an ominous look in her eye as she says this, a firmness to her tone. She watches her Drifblim wreak havoc on the car. For the Pokemon, it seems to be an outlet that had been long-since coming. [break][break]

In this instance, the Drifblim has used her frame advantage to rupture the interior of the car from the inside out. She fits where others may not, her ghostly body.[break][break]

Thea exhales softly as Alexei speaks up again. Her attention slides back to him and she muses over his comment.[break][break]

"Happenstance, honestly. Call it fate, pushing me into this mess."[break][break]

“I don’t know why, but the moment a single member of the Drifloon line even sees me, it’s like… it’s like they go off on a tangent and try attacking me. I’ve had experience prior with several, and they all ended up detonating themselves in my face. I don’t know why they keep doing that, though,” he mused quietly as he turned his attention to the Lucario who was now attempting to bowl the vehicle over.[break][break]

I seriously need to get him something useful, the question is, what? He thought, knowing that Bullet Punch and Force Palm were on the lower-powered side of things. At least the Lucario seemed to be enjoying himself, letting out all that built-up stress that had accumulated for so long.[break][break]

“There’s actually a reason why I have these shades on,” he confessed a few moments later as he watched his Lucario smash into the car once more with another Extreme Speed attack. He wondered if this was a good idea, but decided to go with it anyway.[break][break]

“…people might recognize a Gym Leader in this mess,” he admitted as he turned to look at what his Lucario was doing. The car was looking pretty smashed at that point…[break][break]

"They must not like you."[break][break]

Thea's response is blunt but its the only reason she has to reason the situation he presents. Her own Drifblim had only reacted with such violence in the past as a young Drifloon - and even then it was because of unspoken turmoil. There was more to that Pokemon than one might know.[break][break]

She watches as the Drifblim and Lucario are ultimately successful in demolishing the car, and, once all is over with and Drifblim finishes crushing things, she returns to Thea's side with quiet relief.[break][break]

The woman, however, is gazing upon the young man with the sunglasses and bandana with mild curiosity.[break][break]

"Is.. is that a bad thing? They wouldn't announce this as a public event if they didn't want bad publicity. I'm fairly certain this is for charity."[break][break]

She shrugs, however, before offering the young gym leader a polite bow and a smile.[break][break]

"Well - I really should be going! I must get back to Lilycove. It was a pleasure, sir."[break][break]
